No school

ALL STUDENTS AND PARENTS NOTE: MACBETH IS THIS FRIDAY. There was a glitch in
the communication with Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and we are scheduled for January 21, Friday.
Missed work for academic field trips can be made up.
We will return to school before the end of 9th period, so buses home are not a problem.
If you have any concerns, please email me: vkessler@op97.org
7/8 #1 - Macbeth Cast Party. Each student will be given the identity of a character,
plus a brief description of his/her relationships and position. Students will mingle and talk
to one another in character. The goal is to quickly understand characters through conversations.
#2 Kinesthetic Activity: Vowels carry the emotional content of our language. Some have higher pitch,
some lower. We will connect them to parts of the body. Sound to movement.
As one group, we will explore vowels: zoo, woe, shaw, mah, fuh, etc. Then students will slowly
move around the room, adding movement to the sounds they hear. When they are comfortable
with sounds, we will begin words.
If time allows, we will speak famous lines in unison; e.g. "A drum, a drum; Macbeth doth come."
6th Classes will mirror 7/8th this week. We go to Macbeth this Friday, but some time must be devoted
to FPS work. Because we are in a countdown to Regional Competition, students should really pay attention
to Genetic Testing articles DAILY, and make notes on what they read. Remember, each team member
is responsible for four categories.
Whoever had Recreation - that includes Sports, and there are several articles devoted to new college
requirements in genetic testing.

7/8th Movie Trailer. We will create our own version of a movie trailer, complete with dialogue from
all acts. This trailer will be the complete story - short version! We did this at Saturday's Macbeth
seminar, and it was so much fun. We might even film it for you to see. At the Potluck, of course.
Not on the blog.
The Potluck will have to move to mid/late February. Maybe for Valentine's Day? We are still working
on a Space Project, science labs prelude to the future Fermilab field trip, FPS, outside novels for our
GTD Book Review, and now Macbeth. We are eclectic!!
6th Movie trailer. FPS.
Thursday, January 20
6/7/8th Talking Tableau. Groups of 2-3 students will have a 6-line passage. The challenge is to create a
kpicture and also speak the words. You may shout, whisper, draw out - whatever works. Movement should
go with the words. Time in class to create, rehearse, and perform.
Famous lines. Identify the speaker and the circumstances. There are 28 altogether.
This play is remembered for its famous lines.
